Between tradition and modernity: family holidays in the Ore Mountains
A holiday in the Ore Mountains takes you to one of the most beautiful regions of Saxony. Here, sights and excursion destinations are strung together like pearls on a string. You can enjoy a wide range of leisure and entertainment options, as well as centuries-old traditions.
Our recommendations for your family holiday in the Ore Mountains:
An insight into Saxon mining is particularly exciting. With over 800 years of mining tradition, you can now follow in the footsteps of ore mining above and below ground, for example in the silver mine in Freiberg or the visitor mine in Annaberg-Buchholz. Both places are located on the Silver Road, which runs from Zwickau to Dresden. Keep your eyes open, you might find a precious treasure! Are you familiar with nutcrackers, incense smokers and Schwibbogen? Then you also know about the traditional craft of wood carving in the Ore Mountains, which can be admired above all in Seiffen. In this small but well-known village, wooden figures and toys are lovingly crafted by hand. In the show workshop, you can look over the shoulders of passionate artisans and experience how Erzgebirge folk art is created. Perfect for a day trip for two or with the family!
